The ministry of external affairs of India made changes to its Passport rules that allows the first-time passport applicants to get the passport in a week by just submitting four documents. To get the passport in a week, along with the application, the following documents are required – Aadhar card, Voter ID, PAN card, and affidavit (annexure I) of no criminal case which includes family details and declaration of citizenship.
Before, it was taking nearly a month to get a passport as police verification was taking a lot of time. According to the new rule, the police verification will be done after getting the passport.
The appointment at Passport Seva Kendra can be chosen from the first five available dates for passport related services. Also, there will be no extra charge for getting a passport under this new rule.
Procedure to get the passport under this new rule:
- Application can be submitted and appointment can be taken at the passport website or by visiting Passport Seva Kendra
• Carry the required four documents mentioned above
• Submit the print out taken application along with the four documents at Passport Seva Kendra
• Once your application is approved after validating the documents by the granting officer, you will get the passport in a week
Important notice:
If you born after 26.01.1989, birth certificate is must for you to get passport as a date of birth proof. If you don’t have birth certificate, how to get it? I will explain:
1. First you have to contact your Municipal Office, if your birth date was registered there, it is fine. If it is not registered, you have to get a certificate of non availability of your birth certificate.
2. After that, you have to contact a lawyer along with the non availability certificate. He/she can help you get the date of birth certificate after submitting an Affidavit and non availability certificate at the court.
